Visually not a typical white tea, since it is sun-dried after special rolling. Its pleasant, toasty character is slightly astringent, yet full flavored. Delicious toasty character, tending orange-red with golden notes, with body reminiscent of oolongs. Lingering taste that encourages another cup. Its leaves are plucked from a special varietal tea bush called Narcissus. Instead of steaming or pan-firing, like with green teas, the leaves are naturally-withered and dried in the sun. If additional drying is required, it is a low temperature baking process. Most important, only the special two leaves and a bud at the top of a branch are selected. These leaves must show a very light green, almost grayish color, and be covered with a velvet fuzz. Sowmee is an inexpensive white tea. It has a pronounced taste profile, almost oolong tea-like. Many white tea drinkers prefer this cup in that if offers a unique taste when compared to the delicate nuances of other white teas. Click on thumbnail image for enlarged view. |
